Throwing A Toddler Easter Party

Mar 16, 2019

Throwing a toddler Easter party can be super fun for everyone! I try to pick a theme I like for the very first one and stick with it, calling it “The Annual…”. My theme is Bunny Brunch. I try to throw a children’s party for most holidays for many reasons. The first is, I truly enjoy doing it. Hosting parties is something my mom has always enjoyed doing and she passed that onto me. The second is that while my kids are still young, it gets them a bit more socialization. The third is that I want my children to always look back on holidays and remember how much fun they had.

Throwing a toddler party does not have to be stressful! Keep it simple and let the kids do as little or as much as they want.

The Food

If you have a toddler (or multiple) you know how picky they can be. One day they will eat something, the next day they won’t. Keep the food simple. Something you know is a pretty big staple for your kids and works for most others as well. Also, try to do a food that is relatively easy for you to make in bulk.

Personally, I normally do pancakes if it’s a morning party. However, this time I did donuts. Grayson was right in the middle of his colic stage, so it was just easier for me. Back to the pancakes though since it’s my normal go to – since having children, I’ve become a pro at pancake making. Mostly because I make an entire box at a time and freeze the leftovers for easy breakfasts. If you’re also great at pancake making, the best way is to get two griddles. I have the stove top kind, not electric. With two, you can make lots at once so they aren’t getting cold.

Have the food ready to eat right when people get there or shortly after. When the kids are done eating, I normally let them have some playtime while I clean up.

Activity Time

Last year, the kids dyed Easter eggs. I made it a BYOHBE (Bring Your Own Hard Boiled Eggs). This way people could dye as much or as little as they wanted. I also had some extra eggs boiled in case anyone forgot.

Three words you need to remember – “Embrace The Mess”. It was super fun for everyone. I bought a couple packs of the dye that has colored cups with it so the kids could use those cups to dye. There were a couple reasons I chose to do this. One, they are shallow, so little ones can see into them easily. Two, they are plastic (I know, I hate using plastic, but I did save them for this year) so they cannot break if little fingers decide to pick them up. This year I’ll buy the packs of dye that are just dye pellets because I saved all of last year’s cups to reuse.

Using spoons (or fingers) were also a big help. It’s hard for toddlers to use those little wire hooks to get the eggs in and out.

After egg dying, the kids did a little Easter Egg Hunt. I did it color coordinated last year. Not sure if I’ll do it again. It was nice because it helped kids learn colors and kept the numbers even, but at 2, they weren’t really getting it. The three year olds this year may understand a bit better.

Keep things moving quickly, let the kids play, embrace the chaos, and your sure to have an awesome new tradition for your kids!
